Oftentimes, the elderly forego the idea of being able to luxuriate in a bath, especially those who live in small apartments with tiny bathrooms. There is an alternative that can make it very easy for them to enjoy either a shower or a bath that is fairly easy to install. A small corner bath can be the perfect solution to providing them with both bathing and showering facilities.
There are many different styles of these types of corner baths available, ranging from tiny units that really are not long enough to stretch out in to the large and luxurious styles with a hard wood surround, jet sprays and built in whirlpools. Perhaps the best type to install for the elderly, however, is the small walk in bathtub and shower combination. Walk in tubs are great for the elderly, as they do not have to worry about climbing over the side to get into the tub, or climbing up on something and then stepping down into the tub. It provides them with a very safe and accident free way to get into the tub.
These types of baths can also include other specifications, which have been especially designed for comfort and to make it very easy for the elderly to bathe. They often include a built in chair or stool or ledge that the person can safely lower down onto. Tubs often have high sides so the water can fill up the tub to the point that the person sitting is still almost completely submerged up to their shoulders without having to lay down in the water. Floors are non-slip and the faucets are nearby the seated area. A shower attachment is attached directly above the seated area of the tub, and the water for the shower is also controlled by the faucets near the seat. Usually, in order to facilitate ease of use for the elderly, emptying the tub is also controlled from the seating area of the bath itself.
If you know of an elderly person who really does love to soak in a bath, you may want to look into installing this type of combination unit. A small corner bath and shower combination is perfect for the elderly to use and it is also very easy to install. It is compact enough to fit into even the smallest bathroom, yet still provide an opportunity for both bathing and showering in an extremely safe environment.
